Or would Nina rather it was Supernatural?

Let's talk about this overrated show turned manga that features a gay protagonist and his harem that he disses for his best friend and enemy a teenaged protagonist who starts a war to make the world a better place for his little sister and acquires a geass and a pizza hut-loving squatter who does not seem to know that it is not good to use other people's …

Tragic ending with classic yet sweet, romantic content. Divine just like what my friend said. Who do you think is to blame for their deaths? Did you cry while reading the tragedy? Did you say "YOU'RE SO STUPID SHE'S STILL ALIVE!" and almost cursed hell and anything that goes with it like I DID? Let's discuss about our thoughts about Romeo and Juliet here xD What you think about it and stuff. Did you read the whole book? (God, that will take me days to read)

I have rules. READ BEFORE POSTING.

NO FIGHTING
Do NOT get off topic
HAVE FUN!!

What can I say, it's a classic. About anyone who knows about the concept of love would know this story.

I've never read the books, but I already know the ending. Heck, everybody does.

my favorite line: "What's in a name?"

Do you really believe it to be a "romance"? Are you sure they really loved each other and it had nothing to do with teenaged hormones? Are you quite certain that through whatever, Romeo would forever love Juliet and not leave her if he finds another more beautiful?

Lol, I read that somewhere. That was what some people were saying.

Imo, they were crazy. So was Shakespeare. Seriously, if they had just a bit more patience. Especially Romeo. If he were more patient, she would have awakened. That's what he gets for committing suicide right away. Tsk tsk.

I don't have a favorite line. But, iirc, "a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet"?

...Interesting. I hadn't thought of this. Well, that's probably because I didn't read the book myself. Did they ever do it?

...Everybody is crazy. It's a disease. Looks like he was a little bit impatient. But committing suicide when your loved one wouldn't wake up? That's quite retarded. Real crazy. I'd just wait for her, even if it takes an eternity. ...Or something. Why am I even saying things like these asdgddhfhgnhgm

...So that's where that line came from? Derp.

I'm not sure if the real play had them do it but mommy said some movies do. Aaaaaand they did get married.

Lol, /i never thought you'd say such a thing.

...you do know that I was only continuing MommyCakes's "What's in a name?". Lol, checked, I missed the first few words. "That which we call a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet"

Here's the full line. Apparently, the most popular of RxJ is from Act 2, scene 2, 33-49

"....O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name;
Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love
And I'll no longer be a Capulet.

...(romeo asks if Juliet has more to say)

'Tis but thy name that is my enemy:
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? It is nor hand nor foot,
Nor arm nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O be some other name!
What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other word would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
and for thy name, which is no part of thee,
Take all myself."

Since we are discussing, I will give my two cents on what this means. It may not be accurate, though since it is just my opinion on what it means. It's much shorter though.

Very well put. To be honest, I didn't understand at all what Juliet was saying.

Lol, my face if we end up doing plays next year. Anyways, yes, OE is difficult to understand. Very difficult. Iirc, I read in one of my books that wherefore = why. Or therefore. That's how I connected it that she was going "why is your name Romeo or Montague".

Plays are fine with me as long as they're English. That, and I'll probably play a minor role or have no role at all. That's pretty much the main reason I don't like poetry much. It's kind of hard to understand, especially old ones. I can't do poetry too, I can't even rhyme right.

On a side note, I didn't know Romeo's surname was Montague. Or maybe I did at some point and forgot. Well whatever, this is probably because I don't read the books. I've never read them.

Somehow I understood what Juliet said.. meh, Well maybe not that Shakespeare's a little impatient but maybe he just likes tragedy that's why he came up with the idea.. I don't know where I heard that he likes tragic plots, it sorta came in my mind and I had a deja vu...

Lol. That's too bad. But, I think others think that already. Seeing as he made the tragics special. They were the best afterall.

He has a thing for tragedies then. What are his other works that take this into account? I am a bit interested.

This is also somewhat on topic because we are talking about the author. That's what I think, anyway.

Hamlet, MacBeth, Othello, Julius Caesar and Anthony and Cleopatra. You've heard of them, yes?

Yes. At least once. Okay, back to R&J.

So is there some sort of deeper meaning behind the story? Because people just make it look like some sort of love story and stuff. Some kind of romantic story, then they die at the end. That's it.

Deeper meaning? scratch study maybe there is, maybe there isn't. Shakespeare probably just went "they die. The End."

They had the whole 'forbidden romance' thing going on, didn't they?

Well, feuding was pretty much war. Many characters died there, iirc, because of Romeo and Juliet. Nope, they aren't. I don't even remember if they were nobility, though with such a feud, they probably were. Aaaand, oh yeah:

O Romeo, Romeo, Nasaan ka Romeo? (I swear, even wiktionary says wherefore=why)
"It is not “Where are you, Romeo?” but “Why are you Romeo?” (i.e. “Why did you have to be a Montague?”)"

na kanya kahit walang pangalan, Romeo, pangalan mo ay iwanan;
At kapalit noon, na hindi bahagi ng pagkatao mo,
Ay lubusang kunin mo ako.
